Arriving early morning in Mihintale, near Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Walking up the sacred grounds to witness a wonderful sunrise at the top of the rock. Climbing about 1850 steps up, we only met the monks that live here and we witnessed some morning Buddhist rituals.
Mihintale is believed by Sri Lankans to be the site of a meeting between the Buddhist monk Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is now a pilgrimage site and the site of several religious monuments and abandoned structures. And on top of the rock, you will have an amazing view of the area.
Visiting Mihintale during your vacation and roundtour in Sri Lanka will give you a wonderful experience of SriLankan history.
